Upskilling and reskilling the workforce in data – new leadership training for SMEs and the Third Sector

New training has been developed to help leaders understand the potential for the use of data within their organisation, and understand how to upskill their team, ensuring they have the right mix of data skills to drive value.

The training has been developed by The Data Lab as part of the Data Skills for Work programme, funded by the Edinburgh & South East Scotland City Region Deal. To launch the course, we are initially offering the course free to leaders of SME and third sector organisations operating in Edinburgh & South East Scotland.

Why is this course needed?

Organisations need to develop their understanding of their own data skills needs, including how to define and source these requirements, and how to develop or source employees with the right mix of sector and specialist knowledge.

Those that are able to meet these challenges, particularly through senior buy in and advocacy, will likely thrive in a data-driven economy.

What will the course cover?

Over two half days (online instructor-led), the training will cover the potential for the use of data within your business/charity, help you develop an understanding of your organisational data skills needs to drive value, and how to develop or source the right mix of skills to deliver.

This course will help identify the talent you may already have in your team and understand how you can support your current workforce to develop the skills to initiate and sustain data-driven innovation. Importantly, you will leave with a pragmatic action plan to help you build the right data team for where you are right now.
— Craig Paterson, Executive Education Advisor for The Data Lab and course leader

 Who is the course for?

The course is open by application to SMEs and third sector organisations operating in Edinburgh, Lothian, Fife, or the Scottish Borders. It is applicable to all industries and will be particularly helpful to those who have responsibility for strategy and resourcing within their organisations.

Upskilling is a great way to support teams’ development and the opportunity to evolve skillsets, as well as maintain in-house knowledge in the team.
