Core skills
Everyone can become a Data Citizen. But to do so, it’s essential to have a basic level of data literacy.
Core skills will give learners a grounding in how data is used in different organisations and across society, and an understanding of different data concepts and key data roles. This skills/capabilities of this theme broadly align with the SQA’s Data Citizenship units at SCQF levels 4 and 5.
For potential Data Leaders who are new to working with data, a grasp of the key concepts is essential before proceeding further.
The use of data in society
After gaining this skill, learners will have an understanding of why data is becoming more important, its impact, common sources of data, and how it is used (and misused) by individuals, organisations and across society.
Important for: Data Citizen, Data Leader
Describing & understanding data concepts and roles

Learners will also be introduced to different sources of data, including online sources, open data and questionnaires.
