SGSSS Internship with Data Skills for Work

We’re pleased to offer an exciting internship open to Social Science PhD students in Scotland.


What would you be involved in?

As part of our objectives, we developed the Data Skills Framework to identify skills needed for employability. The framework was developed pre-covid pandemic and we believe that the economic, social and work landscape has changed, and accelerated automation in many sectors,  transforming even more job positions. We see the relevance of updating our framework to ensure it remains relevant in a post pandemic scenario.

What skills are required?

Knowledge of social research methods: Qualitative: methods survey of work market, observation, text analysis. – And – Quantitative: use statistical analysis techniques to evaluate data collected via surveys, polls or questionnaires. Knowledge of the impact of Data in Society Knowledge of Economic driven fluctuations in jobs and workers roles pre and post pandemic Critical thinking and analytical skills. Ability to design surveys with target questions. Researcher will need to travel across Edinburgh and South-East Scotland.
